Exhibition Reviews

Carolyn Mendelsohn: Being Inbetween
Virtual Exhibition Tour

Being In-between is a series of photographic portraits of girls aged between ten and twelve, exploring the transition between childhood and adulthood. This exhibition works rather well in a virtual environment because it managed to take advantage of the space. It also made it easy for the audience to navigate through it and examine the portraits closely. I didn't find myself fighting with the computer to in order to find the perfect angle.

BLOW-UP: Icons Up-Close and Personal
Virtual Exhibition Tour

This exhibition celebrates photography post-lockdown and exhibits some of the worlds famous portrait photographs. The exhibition was easy to navigate around and due to the details placed in this space, it felt immersive. However I did find it hard to get close to the photographs to examine them closer. There is an option to move you closer but I did find that it didn't work sometimes. I also think that it looks quite unorganised at times.

Sony World Photography Awards 2020 - Middle East and Africa Exhibition

Virtual Exhibition | Virtual Gallery

This exhibition consists of the winners of the Sony Photography Awards and it was really different to navigate. Instead of tapping onto different spaces within the exhibition, you were given a circle which acted as a joy con. This allowed you to move freely around the space, but I did find that it acted like a tank control which meant that when you wanted to turn in a particular direction you had to fight with the circle for a bit. If I could change anything then it might be the size of the photographs because they were quite small. Overall this exhibition was the best virtual experience that I have looked into. If artsteps had a similar feature I would implement it into my exhibition.
